Pest animals cause serious economic losses to agricultural production, pose an unacceptable risk of exotic disease,
threaten the survival of many native species and cause environmental degradation.
Landholders (both public and private) have an obligation under the Rural Lands Protection Act 1998 (RLP Act)
to eradicate pest animals on land they own, occupy or manage. it is not optional, it is an obligation that can be enforced.
There are some legislative considerations when developing a vertebrate pest management program, and while it may seem a simple matter to destroy vertebrate pests, it is advisable to be aware of the relevant legislation pertaining to the various methods used.
