Whatever your opinion on management of vertebrate pest species may be, the information provided here is intended to give an understanding of why pest management is necessary, and why the development of an integrated approach is so important. Pest animals cause serious economic losses to agricultural production, pose an unacceptable risk of exotic disease, threaten the survival of many native species and cause environmental degradation.
Landholders (both public and private) have an obligation under the Rural Lands Protection Act 1998 (RLP Act) to eradicate pest animals on land they own, occupy or manage. We are developing an area of the website to provide broad information relating to all aspects of vertebrate pest management.
There are some legislative considerations when developing a vertebrate pest management program, and while it may seem a simple matter to destroy vertebrate pests, it is advisable to be aware of the relevant legislation pertaining to the various methods used.
For this reason we recommend that the customer is careful if considering destruction of pest species themselves. There are a number of links that you may care to visit for further information.
